Tanzanian musician Christina Shusho has released a new song in honour of Kenya’s former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

Odinga died on October 15 in India at the age of 80, surrounded by his family. His remains were flown back by the National carrier Kenya Airways, and his flag-draped casket was received with full military honours.

Upon the announcement of his death, President William Ruto said that flags would fly at half-mast as the country observed a seven-day mourning period. The President also accorded the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader a state funeral.

In a statement, Christina Shusho called Kenya her second home and said it was only right to celebrate the life of Raila Odinga with her fans in Kenya.

“Kenya is my second home. My Ministry has immensely grown through the support of my Kenyan family. I stand with you as we celebrate this great son of Africa, ⁦Raila Odinga. I had to do this for Kenyans,” she said.

The song, released on YouTube and all digital streaming platforms, is called “Pumzika Baba” and honours the life of service that Raila Odinga led.

Fellow Tanzanian musician Rayvanny also paid tribute to Raila in a short song called “Bye Bye Raila” which he posted on his social media platforms and on YouTube.

Posting a video of himself in tears, the Swahili crooner dedicated the song to “his good friend Baba”.

The two are among the many celebrities who have paid their respects to Raila, referred to as the son of Africa, who include Hollywood actress Lupita Nyong’o and Jamaican dancehall artists Konshens and Vybz Kartel.

Following his public viewing held on Thursday at the Kasarani stadium and the National Memorial service held at the Nyayo Stadium on Friday, Raila’s remains will be transported to his political stronghold Kisum on Saturday for another public viewing before he is finally laid to rest on Sunday in his hometown, Bondo.
