Elevated fuel and food prices in the month of July saw inflation rate rise to 4.1pc from 3.8pc recorded in June according to new data by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).
Data from the bureau shows increases in items under transport index and food and non-alcoholic beverages index which went went up by 4.1pc and 6.8pc respectively.
Fuel hikes announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on July 14, 2025 say the price of a litre of kerosene, diesel and super petrol increase by 6.7pc, 5.4pc and 5.2pc respectively.
“Prices of different commodities are collected from selected retail outlets located in 50 data collection zones. Out of the 50 data collection zones, 14 are located in Nairobi City County while 36 are located in other urban areas. Nairobi zones cover outlets in lower income, middle income and upper income areas,” said KNBS.
Notable price increases were registered on a kilo of maize flour which increased by 1.pc, 1kg of sugar by 1.4pc and a 1kg of sukuma wiki which increased by 1.3pc.
Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels Index increased by 1.3 per cent in the last 12 months, KNBS said.
