Egypt qualified for round of 16 as hosts were forced to wait after being held by Mali

Seven time African Cup of Nations champions Egypt needed a Mohammed Salah’s 1st half penalty to labour past South Africa in Group B on Friday to become the 1st country to qualify for the round of 16 fixtures in Morocco.

The win at the Adrar stadium in Agadir ensured Egypt took control of the group on maximum six points .

Zimbabwe and Angola played to a 1-1 draw in an early kick off match in Marrakech.

Hosts Morocco were held to a 1-1 draw by Mali in the last match at the 67,000 seater Prince Moulay stadium in Rabat ,both goals scored from penalties.

The match was attended by France striker Kyllian Mbappe .

The Atlas lions top group A on 4 points ,followed by Mali and Zambia on 2 points apiece while the Coelacanths of Comoros lie 4th on a point.

Morocco will face Zambia while Mali takes on Comoros in match day 3 next Monday.
