Hakimi crowned Africa’s finest as Moroccans dominate 2025 CAF Awards

Regarded as the best right back in World currently Hakimi edged out Egyptian and Liverpool striker Mohammed Salah and Nigeria and Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen.

Morocco and PSG defender Achraf Hakimi was named the 2025 African player of the year as Moroccans dominated the winners list in a glamorous  gala on Wednesday night in Rabat.

The 27 year Old defender who won the UEFA Champions League,French League 1, UEFA Super Cup, Coupe de France and reached the final of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

Hakimi was also instrumental as he steered the Atlas Lions to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2026, becoming the first defender to bag the award since TP Mazembe’s centre-back Bwanga Tshimen in 1973, and first Moroccan since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.

Regarded as the best right back in World currently Hakimi edged out Egyptian and Liverpool striker Mohammed Salah and Nigeria and Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen.

Al Hilal’s Ghizlane Chebbak also from Morocco won the CAF Women’s Player of the Year re writing history as the first Moroccan woman to bag the gong after an outstanding year winning the golden boot award at the WAFCON guiding the hosts to a 2nd finish behind eventual winners Nigeria. 

 

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie retained the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third consecutive year, having helped the Super Falcons secure the  CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024 title.

Bubista, who led Cape Verde to a maiden FIFA World Cup qualification next year bagged the CAF Men’s Coach of the Year with the women’s award set to be presented upon completion of the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League Egypt 2025.

DR Congo striker Fiston Mayele was named CAF Men’s Interclub Player of the Year after finishing as top scorer in  CAF Champions League 2024/25, helping his Egyptian club Pyramids lift the trophy for the first time.

The CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year winner will also be announced at the conclusion of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.

Othmane Maamma won the CAF Men’s Young Player of the Year award after playing a starring role in Morocco’s thrilling triumph at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup 2025.

Morocco’s Doha El Madani retained the CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year award after helping AS FAR to the Morocco Women’s Championship and finishing as top scorer at the CAF Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2025, where Morocco took the title.

Morocco’s Under-20 team were named Men’s National Team of the Year after winning the FIFA Under-20 World Cup 2025, while Nigeria’s Super Falcons were the Women’s National Team of the Year following their  CAF WAFCON Morocco 2024 success, earning the honour for a second straight year.

Pyramids’ CAF Champions League triumph made them worthy winners of the CAF Men’s Club of the Year award, while the women’s club prize will be announced after the CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt.

Goal of the Year went to Tanzania’s Clement Mzize for his stunning long-range strike for Young Africans against TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League.

The award Gala was attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino,CAF President Dr.Patrice Motsepe and Royal Morrocan Football Federation President Fouzi Lekjaa.

The Awards were being held in Morocco for a record third year running after the Tourist city of Marrakech staged the 2023 and 2024 editions.
