The Jubilee Party has endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election following a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by Party Leader Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the NEC also appointed Matiang’i as the new Deputy Party Leader and Jubilee’s representative in the United Opposition as he continues to popularise his candidature.

“The NEC has officially received and unanimously accepted the formal application of Dr. Fred Matiang’i to be the Jubilee Party’s Presidential Candidate,” the statement read in part, adding that the party will officially communicate his nomination to the leadership of the United Opposition.

During the meeting, the NEC also resolved to fill other key positions within the party’s leadership, naming Kagwe Gichohi as Executive Director and National Treasurer, Turkana Senator James Lomenen as Senate Whip, and Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama as National Assembly Party Whip.

The former ruling party further unveiled plans for a nationwide membership registration and mobilisation drive in an effort to revamp its grassroots networks and rebuild public confidence while strengthening its founding ideals of unity, development, and democracy.

“The Jubilee Party reaffirms its commitment to democratic renewal, institutional strengthening, and active participation in shaping the country’s political and socio-economic future,” the statement added.
