KDF announces nationwide recruitment drive slated for October

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise scheduled for October 2025 targeting various categories of service.

In a notice, KDF said the recruitment will cover General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets (Regular and Graduate), Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen/Women, and Defence Forces Constables.

“The Kenya Defence Force (KDF) is pleased to announce to the public the recruitment of General Service Officer Cadet Regular, General Service Officer Cadet Graduate, Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen and Women and Defence Forces Constables. The recruitment will take place in October 2025,” reads the notice.

KDF emphasized that the exercise is free and open to all eligible and qualified candidates.

“The Kenya Defence Forces recruitment drive is free and open to all eligible and qualified candidates. Engaging in bribery or any other form of corruption with the intent to influence the recruitment process is a criminal offense. Any individual found to be involved in recruitment-related malpractice will be arrested and prosecuted.”

According to KDF, minimum academic requirements include a mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with C+ in English, Mathematics, and one science subject for GSO Cadets (Regular).

Graduate Cadets must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university in specified fields. Specialist Officers will be required to have professional qualifications and relevant work experience.

Additionally, the training period for GSO Cadets (Regular) will take three years for a Bachelor of Science degree in Military, Security and Defence Studies while Graduate Cadets will undergo shorter specializsed training before deployment.
