The Government of Kenya has welcomed the Joint Statement issued by the Quad, comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America, on restoring peace in Sudan.

In a statement, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi said Kenya views the Quad’s consultations as a positive initiative that should rally all parties in the conflict toward dialogue, while rejecting any prospects of a military solution.

He underscored the need to harmonise the various peace tracks under the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the African Union as critical to securing a sustainable settlement.

“The unprecedented crisis in Sudan calls for concerted and collective efforts, at the national, regional, and global levels, that can contribute to a peaceful resolution,” said Mudavadi.

“There is an urgent need to advance a negotiated settlement, with the active participation of both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF),” he added.

He cautioned against attempts to split Sudan and urged external actors to stop fueling the war by supplying arms, warning that extremist groups were already exploiting the conflict to destabilise the wider region.

Mudavadi further stated that Kenya will continue facilitating relief supplies through its territory, calling on the SAF and RSF to agree to a humanitarian ceasefire.

He backed the Quad’s call for an inclusive and transparent transition process, saying it must be free from the control of any warring party and reflective of Sudan’s diversity, including civilians, political parties, military groups, and communities.

“Kenya supports the timelines proposed by the Quad for launching an inclusive transition process to be concluded within nine months. Kenya concurs that this transition should lead to the establishment of an independent, civilian-led government with broad legitimacy, which is essential for Sudan’s long-term stability,” Mudavadi said.

The PCS reiterated Kenya’s commitment to working with regional and global partners to help the Sudanese people achieve lasting peace, stability, and democratic governance.
