Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale has challenged the leadership of Kakamega County to consider supporting Kenyan Premier League giants AFC Leopards, as a measure of improving the fortune of the club.
While Referring to to Shabana as a perfect example of how the county governments of Kisii and Nyamira have shown support to the club which is based in the Gusii Region, Khalwale is of the view that the Kakamega county gov’t should follow suit and replicate the same to the 12 time league Champions.
“As we talk I would like to congratulate the counties of kisii and nyamira for giving Shabana Fc the much needed financial support.When we wrote the new constitution we specified clearly that sports will be devolved to the hands of the county gov’ts.But here in Kakamega it’s the exact opposite because the money that should have been set aside to support AFC Leopards, the governor has decided to finance Kakamega Homeboyz. That’s not what Leopards fans would want to hear because is our team and a symbol of Western unity” said Khalwale.
The senator called on the incoming Leadership, which will come into office after the June 29th elections, to put in place a good plan, of steering the club forward.
“The vision that the club has must be that which will help fix the problems of the team. I have a plan and it is not coming up with tournaments to play in them. For the incoming chairman you must have a plan for the club,” he said adding “ingwe is a big team with rich history, we should get back to our glory days of winning titles.
Khalwale also insisted that the club should with western region Secondary schools in sourcing for row talent that will help to improve the club AFC Leopards last won the league title in 1998 and are currently 6th with 45point, 13 adrift of leaders Kenya Police with two matches to play.
