Kenyan-born American Jonah Koech, returned home in style as he continued with his good form, winning 800m at the 2025 Kip Keino Classic World Continental Tour gold series on Saturday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Koech, who had won last week’s 1500m at the Rabat Diamond League, outsprinted in the last 150m to cross the finish line in 1:43.32, ahead of Nicholas Kebenei (1:43.75) and Alex Ngeno (1:45.17), both from Kenya.

“It has taken me 15 years to be able to compete like this and break my own barrier,” Koech said.

Not only did Koech win the race but also qualified for the World Athletics Championships set for September in Tokyo.
