Kenya’s political leadership is united in mourning the death of former Cabinet Minister and Rongo Member of Parliament, Dalmas Otieno Anyango, who passed away on Sunday at his home in Nairobi.

President William Ruto led the nation in tribute, describing the late Otieno as “a visionary leader” who served the country “with honour, integrity, and distinction.”

Ruto praised his industrious nature, noting that his “ideas and leadership will continue to shape generations.”

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta remembered Otieno as “an exemplary statesman” whose long career in public service left an enduring mark on Kenya’s social and economic development.

“His calm demeanour, wisdom, and commitment to dialogue set him apart as a leader who always placed Kenya’s unity and progress above all else,” Uhuru said.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga expressed deep sadness at the loss.

“He was a committed public servant who believed in the power of effective and efficient public service as a cornerstone of good governance,” Raila said, extending condolences to the family alongside his wife, Mama Ida Odinga.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who served with Otieno in Cabinet, praised his discipline and passion for the country’s progress.

“His work ethic and sense of duty set an example for many of us in leadership,” Mudavadi said.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula lauded Otieno as “a voice of reason and an example of principled leadership,” while Senate Speaker Amason Kingi hailed him as a “passionate and fluent debater” who championed the interests of Rongo constituents with patriotism and commitment.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen referred to him as “a great leader and distinguished technocrat” who upheld independence of mind. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi echoed similar sentiments, stating that Otieno discharged his duties with “wisdom, patriotism, and deep commitment.”

Other leaders across the political spectrum also paid tribute. KANU chairman Gideon Moi described him as “one of the most consequential Cabinet Ministers,” while ODM chairperson Gladys Wanga remembered him as “a pivotal figure in Kenya’s political landscape.”

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah eulogised Otieno as a leader of “wisdom, integrity, and dedication.”

Other leaders, including Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale and Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency in the Executive Office of the President Eliud Owalo, described Otieno as “a political giant” and “one of the most brilliant minds of our generation,” noting his impact in both politics and business, particularly in the insurance and banking sectors.
