Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on Kenyans to honour the legacy of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga by upholding the values he championed throughout his political life.
Speaking in Kisumu County, Murkomen said Raila’s lifelong commitment to expanding democratic space, rights, and freedoms in Kenya should continue to guide the nation even after his passing.
“Raila Odinga dedicated his politics to improving Kenya. His politics were driven by the desire to expand the rights and freedoms of the Kenyan people. We mourn his departure, but he has left a very rich legacy,” Murkomen stated.
The CS described Raila as a selfless leader who sacrificed his freedom, time, and energy for the good of the nation. He encouraged Kenyans to allow his legacy to inspire them to serve others and work for the collective good.
“I am certain that the legacy Raila left behind will continue to flourish in our nation. May it inspire us to become a people willing to sacrifice our time and energy for others, just as he dedicated his life to serving others. It’s important for the people of Kenya to remember Raila for the things he stood for,” he added.
Murkomen further underscored the necessity of political unity, stating that Raila’s vision of a united country can only be realized through cooperation across party lines. He urged members of Raila’s ODM party to continue collaborating with President William Ruto and the ruling UDA party.
“I have no doubt that where the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga left us – in a broad-based government, with the forward-thinking and first-world mindset he shared with the President – will be delivered by united leadership in the country, and a united ODM and UDA. I know we will continue working together,” he said.
“I pray that members of Raila’s party will continue working with the President to ensure that the ideas shared by Raila are put in proper context and implemented for the good of the people,” Murkomen added.
