Nanyuki: Autopsy reveals protester succumbed to gunshot wounds

A 23-year-old student who was allegedly shot by police during the Saba Saba riots has died as a result of a severe hemorrhage due to a single gunshot in the pelvic area.

According to the autopsy report, James Gachara had many blood vessels severed during the incident. Doctors had tried saving the life of the late James after the shooting, but he unfortunately succumbed in less than 24 hours.

The autopsy was carried out by a team of three pathologists at the Nanyuki teaching and referral.

Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), Independent Medico Legal Unit, Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were also represented.
