The Super Eagles of Nigeria kept their 5th AFCON title hopes alive after easing past Tunisia 3-2 ,to qualify for the 2nd round as group C winners in an epic clash played on Sunday night at the Fez Sports Complex in Morocco.
Victor Osimhen connected with Ademola Lookman’s pass to put Nigeria in the lead in the 44th minute before Wilfred Ndidi added a 2nd just 5 minutes after the break with an assist from Lookman, who was declared the man of the match.
Lookman put the match beyond the Carthage Eagles with 3 goals this time, receiving an assist from Osimhen.
Montasar Talbi reduced the deficit for the North Africans in the 74th minute before Ali Abdi gave Nigeria a scare 3 minutes from time when he scored from the spot kick.
The win confirmed Nigeria as the group winners on 6 maximum points heading into their last match against Tanzania, who shared a 1-1 draw against Uganda in another day two fixture, as Allan Okello denied Uganda’s last-minute victory after missing a penalty.
Senegal’s Teranga Lions came from a goal down to manage a 1-1 draw against DR Congo’s Leopards at the Ibn Batouta stadium in Tangier city in Group D.
