Nominated MP Denar Hamisi dies at 56

Nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi has passed away.

In a notification, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula announced that the legislator, nominated to the National Assembly in 2022 by the Amani National Congress (ANC), died on Saturday at around 7:00 a.m.

The Speaker conveyed his condolences but did not provide details about the cause of death.

He has appointed Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya, to lead a team tasked with liaising with the family and coordinating a befitting send-off for the late MP.

Wetang’ula mourned his untimely passing, saying he will be remembered for his humility and steadfast commitment to service to the nation. He described the loss as a great one, not only for the House but also for the nation at large.

“His passing is a great loss not only to the House but also to the nation at large. On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and indeed on my own behalf, I convey the heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon. Denar, and to all those who experienced his humility and steadfastness to service to the nation and the community”, the Speaker said pledging to announce communicate further details in due course

Until his untimely demise, Denar served the National Assembly with diligence and commitment as a Member of the Departmental Committee on Sports & Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities.

His life and times

Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP was born in 1969 in Kinango and attended Mombasa Baptist High School between 1984 and 1989 where he sat for his Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) and Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) Examinations.

Prior to joining Parliament, Denar held various positions both in the private and public sectors.

Within the public service, the late Hon. Denar served as Director, Coast Development Authority (2007-2010); Commissioner, Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) (2007-2008); Director, Kenya Airports Authority (2009-2012); Director, Kenya National Accreditation Services (2011-2012); Council Member, the University of Nairobi Council (2013-2018); and Council Member, Moi University Council (2021-2022).
