Mukoyama, gained fame in Kenya when she spent a year in a village in Siaya County, in 2005, learning the traditional stringed instrument of the Luo community, Nyatiti, at the hands of the late maestro, Okumu K’Orengo.

She then adapted Anyango as her stage name, and has since released several albums, containing a fusion of Nyatiti with contemporary instruments.
