The Governor’s Gala on Friday evening brought a distinguished close to the day’s events at the Lamu Cultural Festival.
Hosted by Governor Issa Timamy, the gathering celebrated Lamu’s heritage while highlighting the county’s growing role as a cultural and economic hub.
In his speech, the governor estimated that the county had made approximately KSh. 420M during the three-day festival. that featured dhow races, donkey races, cultural dances and cuisine.
The gala attracted notable national figures, among them, The First Daughter, Charlene Ruto, Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani, Principal Secretary for Investment Promotion Abubakar Hassan Abubakar, and UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar.

While addressing the assembled crowd of sponsors and guests, Charlene thanked the governor for his hospitality. She also said that while in Lamu, she had met with the youth of Lamu with Abubakar Hassan, PS Investment Promotion, to talk about mentorship and investments.
She further praised the festival and all it had to offer, saying “kama Lamu ni tamu, Kenya ni tamu.”
