Ruto appoints Ambassador Amayo and Kamau-Gikuru to executive roles

President William Ruto

President William Ruto announced two significant appointments to the Executive on Tuesday evening following the Public Service Commission’s (PSC) approval.

According to Felix Koskei, Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, these appointments are intended to strengthen Kenya’s regional and continental engagement under President Ruto’s leadership.

The Head of State appointed Amb. Lazarus Amayo as the Special Envoy of the African Union Championship for Institutional Reforms, and former Amani National Congress (ANC) party Secretary General Simon Gikuru as the State House Deputy Comptroller.

Koskei explained that Amb. Amayo’s appointment aims to bolster the Ministry of Foreign & Diaspora Affairs in executing the President’s unique mandate as the African Union Champion for Institutional Reform.

“The Special Envoy will play a crucial role in driving AU’s institutional reforms in collaboration with the State Department for Foreign Affairs and the African Union institutions,” he stated.

Ambassador Amayo brings a wealth of experience, having served as Kenya’s Ambassador to the United States, the United Nations, the United Kingdom, and in various other diplomatic capacities.

Meanwhile, Gikuru, an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, brings over a decade of experience in law, management, strategic planning, and policy formulation.

His diverse background includes roles as a Managing Associate at Chege Kamau & Company Advocates and as Group Managing Director of Amoo Holdings International Limited.

Gikuru holds a Master of Law (LL.M) degree from the University of Nairobi and has undergone postgraduate training in Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Massachusetts.

Koskei expressed confidence in the newly appointed officials, stating that their expertise and experience will greatly contribute to the nation’s pursuit of fair, just, and equitable development, in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
