President William Ruto has nominated John Cox Lorionokou as the Registrar of Political Parties and Agatha Wanjiku Wahome as the Assistant Registrar.
The nominations follow a recruitment process conducted by the Public Service Commission (PSC), which advertised the positions earlier this month.
The chair position became vacant following the resignation of Ann Nderitu, the former Registrar of Political Parties, who has since been appointed as a commissioner at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“President William Ruto, in line with his constitutional mandate, and acting on the recommendations of the Public Service Commission, has today made the following nominations in the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties Mr. John Cox Lorionokou — Registrar of Political Parties 2. Ms. Agatha Wanjiku Wahome — Assistant Registrar of Political Parties”, read a statement from State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.
KNCHR Nominee
Also nominated for appointment is Claris Awour Ong’anga as Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR).
She replaces Duncan Oburu Ojwang, who officially declined the nomination just days after his name was forwarded to Parliament for vetting.
In a letter addressed to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Ojwang cited personal reasons and a potential conflict of interest as grounds for his refusal.
“In addition, and in line with the recommendation of the Selection Panel appointed via Kenya Gazette Notice No. 4651 of 11th April 2025, President Ruto has nominated Ms. Claris Awour Onganga for consideration by the National Assembly for appointment as Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR)”, Mohamed said.
The President has formally transmitted these nominations to the National Assembly for consideration and approval, as required by law.
The National Assembly is expected to vet the nominees and approve or reject the nominations within 21 days.
