The management of Super Metro Sacco has condemned the torching of one of its 33-seater buses, valued at Ksh 6.5 million, by boda boda riders near Juja City Mall along the Thika Superhighway.

According to the Sacco’s chairman, Nelson Mwangi, the vehicle was not to blame for the fatal accident that claimed the life of a boda boda rider. He termed the attack on the bus as a criminal act and urged law enforcement agencies to take firm action against those involved.

Juja Sub-County Transport Chairperson, Jackson Wamae, emphasized the economic impact of the incident, noting the vehicle’s value and urging road users to allow due process whenever accidents occur.

Eyewitness Moses Lunalo, himself a rider, recounted that the deceased had overtaken him at high speed before colliding with a tuk-tuk. In an attempt to regain control, the rider veered off the road and was fatally hit by the Super Metro bus that was trailing behind.

Juja Sub-County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu confirmed the account, noting that both the bus and the rider were headed in the same direction along the service lane when the rider lost control and was run over, dying on the spot.

Police officers who arrived at the scene were overwhelmed by angry riders baying for the bus driver’s blood. The driver managed to flee to safety.

Ngungu condemned the retaliation, stressing that action will be taken against those found culpable.

The remains of the bus are currently at Juja Police Station as investigations continue.
