Tanzania becomes the first side to qualify for the CHAN 2024 quarters

Co-hosts Tanzania, TaifaTaifa Stars,became the first team to seal their quarter-final spot at the ongoing 2024 CAF TotalEnergies  African Nations Championship in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Taifa Stars punched their ticket followinga hard-fought 2-1 win over Madagascar in their Group B match played yesterday at  the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Yanga talisman Clement Mzize, scored both goals for the home side in a span of 7minutes, getting on the score sheet in the 13th minute before completing his brace by connecting a Feisul Salum cross.

Madagascar pulled one back through Mika Razafimahatana inthe 34th minute, with the scores remaining unchanged until the full-time whistle.

Mzize also became the 1st player to score a brace in the CHAN 2024 finals as he guided Taifa Stars to break the group stage exit voodoo in their past three appearances.

The win also ensured the Hemed Suleiman’s charges  maintain their 100% record and are likely to top their pool B and host the 1st quarter final against the 2nd-placed team from group A.

Tanzania leads the group with a maximum 9 points from three matches, followed by Mauritania, who beat the Centraltral African Republic 1-0 in the earlier match of the day with 4 points while Burkina Faso are 3rd on 3 points.
