During today’s Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kitui, the late Raila Odinga was remembered not just as a political giant, but as a true Shujaa whose influence shaped Kenya’s democratic journey.

Pupils dressed in all white took to the field and arranged themselves to spell out the word “Shujaa,” their voices rising in unison as they recited a heartfelt poem celebrating his life and legacy.

It was a simple but powerful tribute to a man who inspired generations to speak up and dream bigger for their country.

The celebrations come just a day after Raila was laid to rest in his hometown of Bondo, where thousands turned up to bid him farewell.

This year’s Mashujaa Day, at Ithookwe Stadium, falls right in the middle of the seven-day mourning period declared by President Ruto.

While the event today will celebrate many of Kenya’s heroes, the spirit of Raila Odinga is woven into the songs, the speeches, and the hearts of the audience.
