Television personality Wendy Williams was escorted from her assisted living facility to a local hospital for evaluation by the New York Police Department (NYPD) on March 10, People magazine reports.

The incident occurred after Williams was seen throwing handwritten notes from her apartment window, some of which read, “Help! Wendy!!” according to the New York Post. Photos also surfaced showing her waving from the window while on the phone.

Authorities were called to conduct a welfare check following concerns over Williams’s well-being.

The former talk show host has reportedly been requesting to leave the facility for some time. In a January interview with The Breakfast Club, Williams described her experience in the facility as feeling like being in a “luxury prison” and insisted that she was “not cognitively impaired.”

Williams has been under a court-appointed guardianship since 2022 after a bank alleged she was a victim of financial exploitation.

In 2023, she was diagnosed with dementia and aphasia, but she has claimed she has not been reevaluated since that initial diagnosis. Her family has also expressed concerns, saying they have struggled to maintain contact with her.

“The people who love her cannot see her,” her sister, Wanda Finnie, told People Magazine.

Williams’s representatives have not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
