An additional 180 Kenyan students have successfully completed the Huawei DigiTruck digital skills training programme.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communications & Digital Economy William Kabogo at the Kabimoi Vocational Training Centre in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County. The young graduates acquired essential skills in cloud computing, coding, and digital literacy.

Kabogo lauded the youth and community members who completed the training, noting that it will open doors to new opportunities in the digital economy.

“This programme is a key driver in bridging the digital divide and ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind as we journey toward a fully digitally enabled society,” he said, emphasizing that the graduates represent the future of a connected and innovative Kenya.

The programme is part of Huawei’s TECH4ALL initiative, which utilizes a mobile, solar-powered classroom to provide free ICT training to underserved and remote communities, aligning with the government’s agenda to build a digital workforce and economy.

The DigiTruck has now empowered over 6,200 youth across 39 counties in Kenya with digital skills, equipping them to thrive in the digital era.

Participants also engaged in the Huawei Innovation Challenge, developing tech-based solutions to address local community issues, thereby showcasing their problem-solving abilities.

The winners of the competition were Kibet Korir, Brian Kipchumba Kiprop, and Kirui Jerono Keithlyn. Kibet plans to collaborate with volunteers to launch a social media campaign and organise sensitisation forums to reach at least 200 youth and combat drug and illicit brew addiction.

Kipchumba disclosed that he will work with local veterinarians to share timely animal health tips via social media and messaging apps, aiming to reduce livestock losses.

Meanwhile, Jerono intends to promote online job platforms and teach digital skills, which are particularly relevant as a new digital hub is being established in the area. She also aims to support youth in accessing telemedicine services.

“Their inspiring ideas are a true reflection of the power of digital skills to transform lives and communities,” Huawei Kenya stated in a release.

Mobile ICT training programmes like Huawei’s DigiTruck are crucial for underserved communities, as they directly address the digital divide by bringing essential digital skills and connectivity to remote and marginalized areas that lack access to traditional educational infrastructure.

ICT Principal Secretary Eng. John Tanui, Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, and his Eldama Ravine counterpart Musa Sirma also attended the graduation ceremony. Eng. Tanui lauded the Huawei-powered mobile classroom, saying it equips underserved communities with vital skills for entrepreneurship and jobs in the digital economy.

“As the DigiTruck moves nationwide, it bridges the digital divide, aligning with Kenya’s Vision 2030.We call for more initiatives to scale digital skills, empowering youth and communities for a tech-driven future,” said the Principal Secretary
