500 athletes to battle for national cross-country title in Eldoret

For the 1st time in history, races will be held from 2pm, unlike before, when events were conducted in the morning.

Over 500 athletes are expected to battle for the national cross-country title in this Saturday’s championship at the Eldoret Sports Club in Uasin Gishu County.

Participants are drawn from the 16 Athletics Kenya affiliate regions and institutions, including the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, Prisons, KWS, universities, and 11 other regions from across the country.

For the 1st time in history, races will be held from 2pm, unlike before, when events were conducted in the morning.

Athletes will compete for the national titles in the 110 km senior men and under 20events; 8 8 km for women and 6 6 km for women and the 2 km loop for both men and women.

Winners for the senior races will be rewarded under the new  enhanced prize money structure: Ksh 200,000, Ksh 130,000, and Ksh 100,000 for 2nd and 3rd finishers.

The under-20 race winners are set to pocket Ksh 140,000,000, and 70,000, respectively, for 1st and 2nd runners-up.

The 2 km loop winners will be rewarded with a cash prize of Ksh 50,000 and 2nd position Ksh 40,000, while 3rd placed athletes will pocket Ksh 30,000.
