Gender Cabinet Secretary Hanna Cheptumo has outlined a six-point national action plan to fast-track gender equality and women’s empowerment, following Kenya’s participation at the 69th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) held in New York from March 10 to 21, 2025.
Speaking at a National Stakeholders’ Forum in Nairobi to review the outcomes of CSW69, Cheptumo said the action plan will serve as a roadmap for implementing the Political Declaration adopted at the global summit, which marked the 30th anniversary of the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
The CS lauded the contributions of Kenyan delegates and partners, including UN Women, who supported the country’s active participation in the global women’s rights summit.
“Today’s forum provides an opportunity for us to celebrate our successes, identify areas of improvement, capture learnings for future events and ensure accountability,” she said.
The action plan focuses on inclusive development and decent work, poverty eradication and social protection, freedom from violence and stigma, gender-responsive institutions, peaceful and inclusive societies, and environmental protection.
Cheptumo noted that the Ministry will coordinate the implementation of the outcomes through periodic reviews and evidence-based tracking to ensure impact.
The CS further stressed that national and global gender goals can only be realized through collective responsibility, accountability, and the transformation of dialogue into sustained action.
“Real progress begins when such forums as this turn into follow-through. Let’s transform dialogue into tangible action,” she stated.
