Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has rallied communities in Garissa towards eradicating the ‘Triple Threat’ of new HIV infections, gender-based violence (GBV) and teenage pregnancy by the year 2027.

The CS made the remarks Friday during a visit to the county, where a five-day free medical camp is currently underway.

Kenya ranks seventh globally in HIV prevalence, with approximately 1.4 million Kenyans living with the virus. Of these, 90 per cent are currently receiving treatment.

Last year, the Ministry of Health launched a renewed national campaign aimed at accelerating efforts to prevent GBV, reduce early and unintended pregnancies among adolescent girls, and strengthen HIV prevention programmes for the youth.

The renewed effort was prompted by growing concern over the rising number of new HIV infections, particularly among young people.

The free medical Camp in Garissa has been convened by the Administration Police Service in partnership with the County Government to accelerate effective quality healthcare services through general medical services, wellness check up and health education.

Additionally, the CS is also expected to sensitise the community on Kenya’s Taifa Care Model, Social Health Authority (SHA) registration, and officially launch the Digital Health Services, a major health sector reform undertaken by the Ministry aimed at strengthening Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Duale is hosted by Garisaa County leadership led by Governor  Nathif Jama and Senator Abdulkadir Hajiand accompanied by Director General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth, SHA CEO Dr Mercy Mwangangi, Deputy Inspector General of Police (IG) Gilbert Masengeli, Acting CEO Digital Health Agency(DHA) Mr Anthony Lenaiyara, among other government officials.
