Over 15,000 Participants from 75 nationalities confirmed for Nairobi City Marathon

Slightly over 15,000 participants from 75 different nationalities have been confirmed for the 4th edition of the annual Nairobi City Marathon this Sunday, 6th July.

The race has attracted participants from Kenya, Uganda, UK,and Spain among others.

Unlike the past three editions, races will begin and end at Uhuru Park instead of  Nyayo stadium currently under renovations for the African Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament.

The race has a total purse prize of Ksh 24 million with Ksh 11.4 million up for grabs for the top 22 finishers in the marathon.

Winners of the 42 km marathon race will be rewarded Ksh 3.5 million for both men and women, Ksh 2.25 million for silver medalists and Ksh1.5 million for bronze medalists.

Half marathon has been allocated a total prize money of Ksh 355,000 with winners set to walk away with Ksh 150,000, while 2nd and 3rd placed athletes will pocket Ksh 80,000 and Ksh 50,000, respectively.

The 10 km category winners will be rewarded Ksh 100,000, while the 2nd placed will take home Ksh 60,000 and Ksh 40,000 for the bronze medalists.

The 42 km race is scheduled to start at 6:45 am, followed by the 21 km at 7:15am, while the 10 km is penciled to kick off at 10 am.

The aim of the race is to showcase the Nairobi Express Way and  the Nairobi City skyline.
