Grande Stade Adrar in Agadir to be handed over next month for AFCON

The Grand Stade Adrar in the port city of Agadir in Morocco, is among the nine venues earmarked for the 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations to be staged between 21st December 2025 and 18th January 2026.

The venue has been undergoing a major facelift for the past year in preparation for AFCON.

“The first phase focused on minor upgrades—improving vegetation around the arena, expanding parking space, and adding modern facilities like ticketing and accreditation booths.” Hitcham Alloul, the stadium director, said

He revealed that the stadium capacity will remain unchanged at 42,000 for AFCON, after which it will be expanded to 46,000 for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Among the areas being upgraded are the changing rooms and security surveillance, as well as the construction of Annex stadiums, with works set for completion at the end of September for AFCON.

According to the constructor, the 1st phase of renovations will be for  AFCON, after which there will be further uplifting  in readiness for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

“All construction works are complete for AFCON, after which we will embark on phase two, which will include lowering the stadium to increase its capacity from 42,000 to 46,000.” added Hitcham

The iconic stadium is constructed to resemble the surrounding mountains at the slopes of the Atlas Mountains.

The stadium will stage 3 group B matches for the 2025 Morocco AFCON including Egypt vs South Africa,1 match for the round of 16 and 1 quarter final.
