Team Kenya’s 2nd batch for the World Athletics Championships departs for Tokyo

The 2nd batch of Team Kenya for the 20th World Athletics Championships left the country this evening for Tokyo, Japan, ahead of the global event slated for 13th-21st September.

The team comprised the 800m men and women as well as the 500m men participants.

 Among the athletes were the reigning Olympic champion and world 800 m silver medallist Emmanuel Wanyonyi and his compatriots Nicholas Kebenei, Kelvin Kimtai and Alex Ngéno.

The women’s 800m team included world under-20champion Sarah Moraa, national champion Lillian Odira and Vivian Kiprotich.

The 5000m, which jetted off on Wednesday evening onboard Qatar Airways, was led by the 2023 bronze medallist Jacob Krop, Cornelius Kemboi and Mathew Kipsang.

 Kenya, with a contingent of 58 athletes, will be aiming to better their 2023 results, where it finished 4th overall with 3 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals.
