The State Department for Correctional Services has feted its best performing individuals and institutions in a gala dinner that marked the climax of the three-day Correctional Service Week.
The awards, which ranged from Distinguished and Outstanding Service to Best in Offender Rehabilitation and Reintegration, saw 22 officers and 24 correctional facilities recognised.
Presiding over the event Thursday evening, Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the exemplary performance was a reflection of the commitment of officers in ensuring safer communities and protecting the dignity of those under their care.
“Correctional reform is an administrative undertaking that entails moral commitment geared towards building a system that is people-centric, humane and aligned to standard minimum rules for treatment of offenders.” He observed.
He said the future of correctional services in the country remains bright as it is being built by men and women who believe that change is possible, service is sacred, and that efficiency and humanity can coexist.
“I have been especially encouraged by the collaboration that has permeated every event during which officers from the state department for correctional services work side by side, as guided by a shared commitment to service excellence.” He Said.
Speaking at the event, Correctional Services Principal Secretary Salome Beacco said it was the belief of every officer working at the department that every life, no matter how broken, carries the potential for renewal.
“The week’s events have reaffirmed a simple but powerful truth: corrections is people-centric. It thrives where compassion meets professionalism; where discipline is balanced with humanity; and where service is guided not by compulsion, but by conviction.” Said Beacco.
Parliamentary Affairs PS Aurelia Rono, Public Service and her Human Capital Development counterpart Jane Imbunya were among those who attended the event.
Themed, Efficient Service Delivery for the Common Good, the third edition of the Correctional Service Week was meant to underscore the importance of operational effectiveness in promoting justice, rehabilitation, and public safety.
