Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan has concluded a working tour of Kenya’s Coast region, reaffirming China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and supporting Kenya’s development goals across infrastructure, trade, livelihoods, and cultural exchange.

During the visit, Ambassador Guo inspected key projects established through China–Kenya collaboration, such as the New Kipevu Oil Terminal in Mombasa, which currently stands as one of the largest energy infrastructure projects in East Africa. She described the terminal as an “impressive symbol of China-Kenya cooperation.”

“It’s boosting Kenya’s energy capacity, trade, and regional connectivity. It’s great to see Kenya and China working together for a more modern and efficient future,” she said.

In Kilifi County, Guo visited a Chinese-supported sustainable water supply project in Kilifi South constituency, which, alongside a similar facility in Magarini, has provided clean water to hundreds of households. She hailed the initiative as a vivid example of how China–Kenya cooperation is improving grassroots livelihoods and promoting sustainable development.

Kilifi, she added, remains “a shining example of China–Kenya friendship,” and she expressed gratitude to local communities for their ongoing support of Chinese investors, development partners, and tourists.

In Kwale County, the Ambassador toured the Huawen Food Factory in Shimoni, where anchovies are processed and exported to China. Since the commencement of the Chinese investment, the envoy noted that local communities have significantly benefited, resulting in a project with win-win outcomes.

“The factory has created jobs, increased incomes for hundreds of locals, and enhanced the skills of local fishing communities—a true reflection of mutual benefit and shared growth,” she remarked.

Ambassador Guo also boarded the PLA Navy Destroyer Baotou, which docked at the Port of Mombasa as part of the 47th Escort Task Force’s mission in the Gulf of Aden. She expressed optimism about strengthening exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and Kenyan militaries.

Reflecting on the outcomes of her tour, Guo reiterated that China–Kenya cooperation has delivered tangible benefits to local communities and pledged that China will continue to partner with Kenya in infrastructure, trade, the blue economy, agriculture, and technology to help the country achieve its development aspirations.

“This year, our bilateral relations were elevated to a China–Kenya Community with a Shared Future for the New Era,” she said, underscoring China’s long-term commitment to Kenya’s progress.

At the same time, Ambassador Guo reiterated the importance of cultural and people-to-people exchanges in strengthening ties between the two nations. She noted the successful launch of the 2025 Kenya–China Culture and Tourism Season, which has already featured activities such as the ‘Singing Tour in Inner Mongolia’ and the ‘Great Migration Live Broadcast.’

Upcoming cultural initiatives include a Chinese Cuisine Competition, China–Kenya Friendship Games, an Anime Film Festival, a Martial Arts Competition, and an official closing ceremony.

“As cultural exchanges between the two countries become more robust, the friendship between our two peoples will be further consolidated, injecting important impetus into building an even closer China-Kenya community with a shared future for the new era,” she said.
