136 Students graduate from Karen Hospital Medical Training College in historic milestone

136 students graduated Friday from the Karen Hospital Medical Training College (KH-MTC), the largest cohort since the institution’s was founded in 2013.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the school’s Principal Martin Mungai opened the speeches with a strong commendation of the students’ resilience, discipline, and mastery of their respective programs.

He reminded the audience that TKHMTC remains rooted in the pillars of academic excellence, discipline, and professionalism.

Mungai emphasized that this year’s theme, New Frontiers of Technology in Healthcare Training, reflects the College’s commitment to preparing graduates for a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, powered by innovations such as AI in diagnostics, telemedicine, and simulation-based training.

The ceremony, held at the College grounds, brought together distinguished guests, healthcare partners, proud families, faculty members, and the graduating Class of 2025.

Chief Executive Office Juliet Gikonyo highlighted the College’s remarkable expansion, including growth in student population, introduction of new programs like Community Heart Health Promotion, and strengthened partnerships with global and regional institutions.

She reaffirmed TKHMTC’s bold vision; growing to 600 students, expanding infrastructure, and progressing toward full university status by 2030.

“Our graduates are equipped not just with skills, but with the compassion and human touch that define excellent healthcare,” she said.

Board Chair Dr. Betty Gikonyo celebrated the College’s growth from its first nine students in 2013 to its current population of 279, noting the College’s 100% national exam pass rate and the impressive footprint of alumni serving in Kenya and abroad.

She reiterated the need for graduates to balance technological advancement with empathy and integrity, qualities that remain at the heart of healthcare.

Co-founder Dr. Dan Gikonyo delivered a motivational message, encouraging graduates to see today not as the end but as the beginning of greater possibilities.

“Today, you have climbed one hill. But from this hill, you will see many more on the horizon. Keep moving forward, keep rising, and keep becoming. The world is open for you to go out and conquer it.”

Guest Speaker Prof. Maina Muchara lauded TKHMTC for its exemplary growth and high training standards.

He assured parents that their children had been entrusted to an institution with strong leadership, committed faculty, and the full support of The Karen Hospital family.

Prof. Muchara highlighted the exceptional quality of training the graduates received: “These students have been mentored and trained using the latest state-of-the-art equipment. They are prepared for modern healthcare demands and ready to serve the world with competence and confidence.”

This year’s graduates were drawn from five academic programs: Diploma in Kenya Registered Nursing, Diploma in Peri-operative Theatre Technology, Higher Diploma in Cardiology, Higher Diploma in Cardiopulmonary Perfusion and Certificate in Community Heart Health Promotion.

The leadership collectively celebrated the graduates for their resilience, their growth, and their readiness to step into the healthcare workforce.
