The Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing partnership with India, citing shared democratic values, historical ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
CS Mudavadi made the remarks at India House in Nairobi during celebrations marking India’s 77th Republic Day.
He conveyed goodwill messages from President William Ruto and the people of Kenya to the Government and people of India.
The Prime CS praised India’s remarkable progress since independence, noting its emergence as the world’s largest democracy and fifth-largest economy, as well as its growing influence on the global stage.
Similarly, Mudavadi highlighted India’s leadership in advancing the interests of the Global South, including its instrumental role in supporting the African Union’s admission as a permanent member of the G20.
He said Kenya continues to draw valuable lessons from India’s digital transformation, particularly in integrated digital governance and efficient public service delivery, adding that such innovations align closely with Kenya’s development priorities.
Additionally, Mudavadi underscored the deep historical and people-to-people ties between the two nations, tracing their roots to pre-independence trade relations and shared anti-colonial struggles.
He acknowledged the significant contribution of Kenyans of Indian origin to Kenya’s socio-economic development.
The Prime Cabinet Secretary noted that high-level engagements between the two countries, including President Ruto’s State Visit to India in December 2023, have further strengthened bilateral relations.
He said Kenya and India are set to begin negotiations on a trade agreement aimed at boosting trade and investment.
Mudavadi also reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to working closely with India in areas of peace and security, sustainable development and global governance reforms, and concluded by proposing a toast to the enduring friendship between the two nations.
