Eastern Africa region is projected to realize increaed uptake of hospital equipment backed by timely procurement decisions.
Organisers of the World Health Expo (WHX) in Nairobi slated for next month say reforms such as the establishment of Social Health Authority (SHA) in Kenya sits within a wider East African financing shift that is directly shaping procurement pipelines.
“Kenya’s transition to the SHA marks a decisive turning point for our national healthcare ecosystem. Healthcare facilities are under immediate pressure to adapt to new reimbursement structures, expanded benefit packages, and digitized claims processing,” said Dr Janki Chauhan, Chairperson, the Medical Technology Industry Association of Kenya (MEDAK).
The transition from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to SHA is estimated to give at least 3,000 healthcare facilities a definite timeline and framework to update how they are equipped, digitised and financed in line with evolving reimbursement and service demands.
Formerly Medic East Africa, WHX in Nairobi which is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Health, and supported by the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) and MEDAK, the expo is expected to showcase key health solution including medical devices and imaging to IT, digital health, and laboratory diagnostics.
WHX says last year, the expo generated $84.19 million in total business with an expanded space coering 4,500 square meters.
“Healthcare financing reforms across East Africa arent simply theoretical anymore, they are actively reshaping hospital procurement right now,” said Tom Coleman, Portfolio Director, Healthcare at InD.
The event will host over 5,500 attendees, around 15% international, and over 200 exhibitors from more than 30 countries, a 22% increase from last year.
