World 800m champion Lilian Odira of Kenya will headline a stacked women’s 800m field at the Athletissima meeting, taking on Swiss favourite Audrey Werro and Dutch star Femke Broeders-Bol in what promises to be one of the season’s most closely watched races.
The meeting marks the 12th leg of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season, which opened in Shanghai/Keqiao on May 16 and will conclude with a two-day final in Brussels on September 4-5.
Odira arrives in form after her breakthrough victory over world number one Keely Hodgkinson in Eugene last month, her first win on the circuit’s premier one-day stops.
She will need that momentum against Werro, the reigning Diamond League champion, who has broken meeting records in both Stockholm and Paris this season and now ranks as the third-fastest woman in 800m history.
Broeders-Bol adds another layer to the contest. A five-time Diamond League champion in the 400m hurdles with a 30-race unbeaten streak in that event, she pivoted to the 800m this season and has quickly established herself as a threat, posting the current world-leading time of 1:53.98 in Stockholm.
She and Werro have already met twice this year, in Ostrava and Paris, and Lausanne extends their emerging rivalry as both sharpen their form ahead of Brussels.
The race is part of a broader showcase for the host nation at the Stade de la Pontaise, with Ditaji Kambundji, Simon Ehammer and Angelica Moser also competing in front of a home crowd before the Swiss contingent heads to Weltklasse Zurich six days later. Pole vault world record holder Mondo Duplantis is also on the Lausanne bill.
With Odira, Werro and Broeders-Bol all expected to renew their duel in Zurich, Lausanne offers an early look at what could become one of the defining rivalries of the season’s closing stretch.
