President William Ruto has expressed confidence that Broad-based alliance will win the 2027 general election.
Speaking in Naivasha during a three-day retreat bringing together more than 300 leaders from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and allied parties, Ruto termed the contest as a choice between a government with an established track record and an opposition he accused of lacking a clear agenda for the country.
“We must win the next election by God’s grace, for the sake of Kenya. The alternative is difficult to fathom. A group of people who have no plan and no agenda are too dangerous for Kenya,” Ruto said.
The President said the alliance must prepare to face voters on the basis of its track record, rather than political rhetoric.
“The other side is in chaos, I don’t have to explain. As we meet here today, the future of our nation is the subject of our conversation,” he stated.
The head of state described the Naivasha meeting as consequential, saying the gathering was the largest assembly of political leaders since the Grand Coalition Government.
He challenged the leaders to use the meeting for candid discussions on the government’s performance over the past four years, initially under Kenya Kwanza and subsequently under the broad-based arrangement, before agreeing on the political direction ahead.
“The future of our nation is dependent on the decisions that we make in this meeting. All of us seated here must understand the weight of the decisions we make because they will influence how Kenya moves into the future,” he said.
The Naivasha retreat is being attended by at least 250 Members of the National Assembly from UDA and ODM, alongside 45 Senators and Governors.
Cabinet Secretaries are also in attendance.
