Interior and National Administration CS Kipchumba Murkomen has slammed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over personal attacks on the families of political leaders.
The CS also trained his guns on the United Opposition and the Linda Mwananchi faction, accusing them of lacking a programme to steer the country forward.
“They don’t have an agenda. They are waiting for their boss, who went into retirement, to plan for them,” he said.
While reassuring Kenyans of the country’s security, Murkomen accused sections of the opposition of sponsoring and covering up for goons involved in political violence.
He further urged the Judiciary to take decisive action against those charged with politically motivated violence.
“When goons are arrested, the opposition should stop the business of running to court to defend them,” he warned.
“We ask the Judiciary to take stern action against those who will be arraigned in court over goonism,” added Murkomen.
The CS also expressed regret over the recent attack on journalists during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay and called on the media to remain objective and avoid taking sides in the fight against political violence.
“To our journalists, stop taking sides in the war against goons,” he urged.
Murkomen spoke during an Interdenominational Church Service at Twiga Primary School in Cherangany, Trans Nzoia County.
The CS was accompanied by Foreign Affairs PS Dr Korir Sing’Oei, who urged the political class to engage in issue-based politics and urged people to be tolerant of others’ opinions.
He underscored the role of religion in shaping society and appreciated the church for its role.
The Foreign Affairs PS has been on the front line in supporting churches, schools, and the community in Trans Nzoia while advancing Kenya’s agenda on the local and international stage.
Other leaders present, including Senator Jackson Mandago, MPs Nelson Koech, Lilian Siyoi and Julius Rutto among other dignitaries, lauded President Ruto’s track record, maintaining that he is on course for a decisive second-term victory.
