A NACADA-led multi-agency team has arrested two suspects and recovered a cache of suspected narcotics and prescription drugs during two intelligence-led operations in South B, Nairobi.
The operations, conducted along Plains View Road in South B, Starehe Sub-County, targeted a shop where officers from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), the National Police Service and South B Police Station recovered several rolls and 101 small polythene sachets containing dry plant material suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The team also recovered Rizla papers, a digital weighing scale and other items believed to be associated with the handling and distribution of narcotics.
In a related operation within the same neighbourhood, officers recovered additional rolls containing similar plant material.
All exhibits were secured and booked at Muthaiga Police Station, while the two suspects remain in custody pending arraignment in court.
The operations come as NACADA intensifies its crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse, particularly in Nairobi, amid growing public concern over the proliferation of narcotics.
NACADA Legal Services Director Leackey Illa, who led the operations, warned drug traffickers and their associates that enforcement agencies were closing in on criminal networks threatening community safety.
“All drug traffickers and their associates have been put on notice. The Authority is coming for them,” said Illa.
He said NACADA was working closely with communities to identify and disrupt criminal networks involved in the distribution of drugs and protect residents from the harmful effects of alcohol and drug abuse.
Illa also stressed the importance of public cooperation in the fight against narcotics, noting that the South B operations were prompted by actionable intelligence provided to authorities.
NACADA has urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities through its official social media platforms or the free helpline 1192.
The Authority says enforcement operations will continue in South B and other parts of the country as it steps up efforts to disrupt drug supply networks and protect communities from substance abuse.
