KHU names provisional squads for the Junior Africa Cup in Namibia

The two teams will be trimmed to 38 players, 19 for each squad, before traveling to Namibia next week for the tournament set to be held from the 18th to 25th of this month in Windhoek.

Kenya Hockey Union on Friday  named two national teams of 50 players for  the under-21 men and women for the Junior Africa Cup 2024 set for Namibia from next week.

The teams comprising 25 players for men and another 25 for the men’s side were named from a group of 100 players who have been in a residential training camp ahead of the championship.

According to KHU President Nahashon Randiek, the two teams will be trimmed to 38 players, 19 for each squad, before traveling to Namibia next week for the tournament set to be held from the 18th to 25th of this month in Windhoek.

The Kenyan men have been pooled in Group A of the tournament together with South Africa, Namibia and Nigeria, while Pool B has Egypt, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

Their female counterparts are in group B together with Zimbabwe and Zambia, while pool A has South Africa, Namibia and Uganda following the withdrawal of Ghana due to financial constraints.

Kenyan men will begin their campaign against Nigeria on the 18th of April before playing South Africa on the 21st of April, followed by Namibia a day later.

The women will open their group stage against Zimbabwe on Monday, 21st, before playing Zambia in their second pool match on Tuesday, 22nd, April.

The tournament was postponed from last year.
