Ababu commends Afraha Stadium renovation progress

Sports Cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba has expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the renovation of Afraha Stadium.

While touring the facility Friday the sports CS assured the Nakuru County Government of the national govt’s support in ensuring that the stadium was modeled to requisite CAF and FIFA standards.

“We are progressing well, and I appreciate Governor Susan Kihika’s outstanding work. Together, we will elevate this stadium to meet FIFA and CAF standards,” remarked CS Ababu.

In a communique sent to newsrooms,the construction of the facility was part of the ministry’s sports infrastructure blue print.

“Sports ministry has aligned stadium construction with the Infrastructure Development masterplan, to provide top-notch facilities for international and continental events”.

The 76-year old facility is undergoing renovations that include expanding its seating capacity from the current 8,200 to  15,000, upgrading the playing field, building new changing rooms, installing new stands with canopies, lighting, and laying atartan track.

The stadium is set to be complete in earnest with annual KECOSO games scheduled August to be held at the venue.

Kenya is undertaking major sports infrastructure renovation and construction ahead of hosting the Continental championship.

Kenya is set to co-host the Africa Nations Championship,CHAN, in September as well as the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Moi International Sports Centre Karasani and Nyayo National Stadium are undergoing renovations while  construction of Talanta Sports City is underway .

Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, Masinde Muliro in Bungoma, Kipchoge Keino in Uasin Gishu are also undergoing face lift.
