African World Cup playoffs to be held in Morocco in November

The 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs, featuring four African teams, will be held in Morocco next month to determine one team which will qualify for the  inter continental playoff .

All the nine winners in African qualifying groups will advance directly to the finals in Canada, Mexico and the US between next year June and July.

A mini-tournament between the top four teams in second place will be held in Morocco in November, and the winner will advance to an intercontinental playoff in March to compete for a spot in the 48-team field for the 2026 World Cup.

The teams will play two semi-finals in Morocco on November 13, at venues still to be confirmed, and then a final on November 16.

The teams will be paired based on their latest FIFA rankings with the highest-ranked side taking on the lowest and the second-highest taking on the third-highest.

Five teams have so far punched their tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, namely Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt and Ghana, with the remaining four direct slots set to be determined on Tuesday, 14th October.
