The Kenya mixed 4 by 400 meters relay team of Kevin Kipkorir, Mercy Chebet, David Sanayek and Mercy Adongo have qualified for the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo following outstanding results in the World Athletics relays which started Saturday in Guangzhou, China.
They were joined by the men’s 4 by 400m relay team of Zablon Ekwam, Boniface Mweresa, Brian Onyari and Kevin Kipkorir.
The Kenya mixed 4 by 400m relay team secured their place with one of the fastest times after they finished third in the first heat of the qualifying round won by Belgium with a World lead of 3 minutes 11.83 seconds followed by Australia with an Area record of 3 minutes 12.34 seconds.
The Kenyan team clocked a season best of 3 minutes 13.41 seconds which also sealed their place in tomorrow’s World relay final.
The USA team led the qualifiers to Tokyo and tomorrow’s final with a World lead of 3 minutes 11.37 seconds and they were joined by Ireland, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Poland and South Africa.
The 4 by 400m men’ s relay team also booked their place in the 2025 World athletics championship as well as the relays final when they finished second in the fourth heat in 3 minutes 00.88 seconds behind France while the USA was third.
However,the women’s 4 by 400m relay team of Esther Mbagari,Mercy Chebet,Vanice Kerubo and Mercy Adongo did not advance to the final after a fourth placing in their qualifying heat.
The Kenya 4 by 100m relay men’s team of Ferdinard Omanyala, Boniface Mweresa, Meshack Babu and Steve Onyango did not advance to the finals nor book their place in the World Athletics Championship too after they placed third in their heat with a new national record of 38.35 seconds.
