13 have been confirmed dead and three others seriously injured in a grisly road accident that occurred near Kikopey, in Gilgil, along the Naivasha–Nakuru highway.
The crash involved a 14-seater matatu and a trailer. Confirming the incident, Nakuru Police Boss Emmanuel Opuru said the matatu was heading towards Nakuru when it collided head-on with the trailer, killing 12 people on the spot, while one died on the way to the hospital.
Emergency responders rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, while police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The accident occurred just hours after another collision on the same highway involving an ambulance, which claimed six lives, including the patient being rushed to hospital and three relatives.
