Kenyan musician Kevin “Bahati” Mbuvi Kioko who is no stranger to controversy, is in the headlines, again, after the release of his new single, “Seti”.
Given the mature nature of the scenes, the new single released on YouTube might be his most explicit project to date.
Ahead of its release, Bahati released a video of himself on Instagram in a maroon suit ensemble from Bespoke City paired with matching high-heeled boots.
The former parliamentary prospective candidate can be seen in the music video wearing the outfit while receiving what appear to be lap dances from a female performer. The imagery also includes bathtub shots and other risqué choreography, which has fueled heated debate online.
Bahati has defended his new release calling it “artistic expression.”
However, his partner Diana Marua has distanced herself from his “new era”, saying, “my focus is different.”
“While I respect his journey as an artist and the choices he makes for his career, I want to be clear – my focus is different. I am fully committed to my businesses, my partnerships, and the brands that trust me,” Diana said in a statement. “That means carrying myself in a way that reflects responsibility, growth, and the values I stand for. Out of respect (…) I will not be involved in the direction Bahati has recently taken in his music.”
This is Bahati’s first single after a one-year hiatus.
