Chebet,Wanyonyi to lead Kenyans in Rabat Diamond League today

Olympic champions Beatrice Chebet and Emmanuel Wanyonyi are among Kenyan athletes who are in Rabat,Morocco for today’s Diamond League.

Chebet the double Olympic gold medallist, will compete in her first Diamond League this season at the Rabat Diamond League in Morocco in the 3,000m.

Chebet is also the 2024 Diamond Trophy winner in the 5,000m and will face stiff competition tomorrow from her colleague Janeth Jepngetich and the 2nd best-ranked athlete over the distance, Taye Elgayehu, who will lead other Ethiopians.

Olympic 800m Champion Wanyonyi will also get his Diamond League campaign underway in the two-lap race, battling against two-time Commonwealth champion Wycliff Kinyamal and Aaron Cheminingwa both from Kenya,against Doha Diamond winner Tshepiso Masalela of Botswana and Moroccan Abdelati El Guesse, among others.

The 100m men’s final will see a battle between Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya, taking on red-hot Akani Simbine of South Africa and Olympic champion in the 200m, Letsile Tebogo of Botswana.

Olympic and World Bronze medalist Abraham Kibiwot will be up against reigning world U20 champion Edmund Serem and Wilberforce Kones in the 3,000msc as they will try to silence Olympic and World champion Soufiane El Bakkali in front of home supporters.

The meet will be the 4th stop in the Diamond League series this season after the Xiamen, Shanghai and Doha events.
