China has strongly condemned the European Union’s latest sanctions targeting Chinese companies and individuals, accusing the bloc of unfairly linking Beijing to the Ukraine conflict and demanding an immediate reversal of the measures.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the European Union stated that Beijing had lodged formal diplomatic protests after the EU included additional Chinese companies in its 21st package of sanctions against Russia.
China described the move as unjustified and stated it had taken corresponding measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of affected Chinese businesses.
“China voices strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the sanctions,” the spokesperson said, adding that the EU acted despite China’s repeated diplomatic representations.
Beijing also rejected what it called attempts by the EU to shift responsibility for the Ukraine crisis onto China.
According to the spokesperson, China has maintained “an objective and just position” on the conflict, supported peace negotiations, and played “a constructive role” in efforts to achieve a political settlement.
The statement further accused the EU of “vilifying and smearing China” over the Ukraine crisis and opposed what it described as the unwarranted sanctioning of Chinese companies and citizens.
China urged the EU to reverse the measures, address their impact, and take concrete steps to preserve broader China-EU relations.
“China urges the EU to immediately correct its wrongdoing, eliminate the egregious impact, and safeguard the overall interests of China-EU relations with concrete actions,” the spokesperson said.
