The push for justice in the murder of Agnes Wanjiru has gathered pace after the High Court issued an arrest warrant for a British national accused of killing the 21-year-old in Nanyuki more than a decade ago.

The development comes after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) told the court that evidence links the suspect, a United Kingdom citizen, to Wanjiru’s death in March 2012.

“Today, the DPP informed the High Court that evidence gathered links the suspect, a United Kingdom citizen, to the murder. The DPP then sought a warrant of arrest to pave the way for extradition proceedings,” reads a statement by the DPP on X.

Wanjiru, a freelance hairdresser and mother of a four-month-old infant, was last seen at Lions Court Lodge before her body was discovered in a septic tank at the premises on June 5, 2012.

Justice Alexander Muteti granted the DPP’s application, noting that murder is an extraditable offence and that there is sufficient cause to institute murder charges against the accused.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the warrant now clears the way for extradition proceedings to commence.

The case is scheduled for mention on October 21, 2025, when the court will issue further directions.
