The 2025 edition of the Driftwood Sevens, slated for the 26th and 27th of this month at the Mombasa Sports Club, has received Ksh 3 million sponsorship from the Kenya Breweries Limited through its flagship brand, Tusker.
Speaking during the official sponsorship announcement, Christine Kariuki, KBL Head of Mainstream Beer, emphasised the brand’s longstanding relationship with sport: ““We’re proud to be back. Last year’s Sevens Circuit and Driftwoods in particular reminded us just how powerful this sport is in bringing Kenyans together. Tusker’s legacy in rugby is one of passion, pride, and purpose. This year, our Ksh. 3 million sponsorship will once again go beyond the pitch, enabling club support, fan engagement, and experiences that celebrate Kenyan greatness.”
Mombasa Rugby Club Commercial Director Teddy Ndemo welcomed Tusker’s backing and expressed confidence about a successful tournament:“We are honoured to receive this significant support from Tusker. Hosting the Driftwood Sevens is a matter of great pride for Mombasa Rugby and the entire coast rugby fraternity. With Tusker’s support, we are working round the clock to deliver a spectacular event, from smooth logistics and strong competition to a truly enjoyable fan experience.”
The 2025 edition of the Driftwood Sevens promises fierce competition,between defending champions and 2024 overall circuit champions, Kenya Harlequins, Kabras RFC, the 2025 Kenya Cup champions , Menengai Oilers and Strathmore Leos, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in last year’s standings, Nondies RFC, Catholic Monks, Nakuru RFC, Black Blad, and Mwamba RFC.
The Driftwood Sevens is the first of six tournaments on the 2025 National Sevens Circuit calendar.
Five more circuits will follow the Driftwood ; Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru on 2nd–3rd August, Christie Sevens in Nairobi on 16th–17th August, Embu Sevens on 23rd–24th August, Kabeberi Sevens on 6th–7th September, and the Dala Sevens in Kisumu on 13th–14th September.
