An economic empowerment drive is set to boost more than 100 women groups in Embu County has been launched , strengthening grassroots enterprises and agribusiness at a time when local entrepreneurs are carrying the weight of the county’s economy.

Through the Wakagoto Foundation, the groups received tents and avocado seedlings,
enabling them to formalize their activities, expand farming ventures and increase household incomes in Gaturi South Ward, Manyatta Sub-county.

“Our vision is to support our youth to employment through industrialization in Embu.”

The initiative forms part of a wider community intervention that also saw over 20,000 families receive Christmas support, offering relief amid rising living costs.

To unlock markets and improve trade, the foundation also rolled out the Dubai–Kagumori– Karingari road, a key infrastructure project expected to ease transportation and open up economic opportunities across Gaturi South Ward.

The empowerment drive is anchored in the Embu Industrial Revolution Vision 2035, spearheaded by entrepreneur Kenjava Mwaniki Wakagoto.

The vision aims to establish over 100 industries, each projected to employ at least 500 young people, positioning Embu as a future industrial hub.

From women-led enterprises to industrial growth, the drive places community empowerment at the heart of Embu’s economic transformation.

“Our people are industrious farmers and they must get value for their proceeds. I have ready market for milk and avocado so that our purchasing power can increase” noted Wakagoto.
