Etihad Airways has announced plans to triple its Nairobi flights by the end of the year, adding over 1,600 seats a week in a move that boosts Kenya’s aviation sector.

The UAE carrier will raise its services from four to eight weekly flights in October before scaling up to double daily flights, 14 per week, by December 15, 2025, exactly a year since it relaunched operations in Nairobi.

“We’re here in Nairobi to underscore how important this market is to Etihad. We’ve continued to see strong demand that validates our decision to significantly increase capacity on this route to double daily service,” said Javier Alija, Vice President of Global Sales & Distribution.

The increased capacity will raise Etihad’s total weekly seat offering on the Nairobi route to more than 2,200.

The development is expected to boost connectivity for Kenyan travellers to major global destinations including London, Paris and Mumbai via Abu Dhabi, while inbound passengers will enjoy easier access to Kenya’s tourism attractions such as national parks, the coast and mountain regions.

“Africa represents an incredible opportunity for aviation growth,” Alija noted.

“Our partnerships across the continent, combined with direct services like Nairobi, create seamless connections for travellers moving between Africa, the Middle East and beyond.”

Industry analysts say the move is a strong signal of investor confidence in Kenya’s aviation sector and its potential to serve as a gateway for regional and global travel.
